Master illusionist Rick Thomas materializes at Stamford Palace Theatre

April 8, 2019

Rick Thomas, both a star of “Masters of Illusion” and “The Illusionists” on Broadway, is bringing his show to Stamford’s Palace Theatre Saturday, April 20.

Thomas, who started practicing magic when he was 7 years old, inspired by the magic of Disney, has completed five world tours in more than 50 countries and headlined in Las Vegas for 15 years. He’s been awarded the coveted “Magician of the Year,” by the Academy of Magical Arts, and magic’s highest recognition, “Illusionist of the World,” by the World Magic Awards.

In an interview with Shelby Reynolds, of Naples Daily News, Thomas speculated about what is about the spectacle of illusion that draws so many people, saying, “The spectacle of illusions takes us beyond reality. It allows us to believe in the impossible. Could you imagine what it was like in the early 1900s when audiences saw the first levitation of person? What if an airplane flew over your head 200 years ago. It would be — wow! That’s what I attempt to create — the ‘wow’ factor.”

The Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic St., Stamford. Saturday, April 20, 8 p.m. $47.50-$24.75. 203-325-4466.
