Prep softball: Eagles edge Vikings, Bluejays top Purgolders

ORFORDVILLE — Brittney Mengel hit a 2-out, 2-RBI double as the Jefferson softball team scored three runs in the fourth to beat host Orfordville Park 3-2 in a nonconference game on Friday.

Claire Beck struck out four, allowing four hits and two earned. She walked one and pitched all four innings.

Jefferson’s other run in the fourth came via error. Callie Schnitger had a first-inning single for the Eagles’ other hit.

Second-seeded Jefferson (22-3) hosts seventh-seeded East Troy on Tuesday in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game. The game at Riverfront Park starts at 5 p.m.

JOHNSON CREEK 9, MADISON EAST 7

JOHNSON CREEK — Brooke Joseph was 2-for-4 and freshman Lexi Swanson pitched five innings to earn the decision as the Johnson Creek softball team beat visiting Madison East 9-7 in a nonconference game on Friday.

The Bluejays (18-3) scored five in the second to go ahead 7-2. Jordyn Pipkin had a run-scoring double before Rylie Thomas singled her home. Thomas scored on a wild pitch and Kaylee Jablonski and Joseph had RBI singles, making it 7-2.

Swanson pitched five innings, striking out one and allowing 10 hits. Bella Herman struck out three and allowed two earned in two relief innings.

“Freshman Lexi Swanson pitched a great beginning and we didn’t give her the defense she needed,” Johnson Creek softball coach Kassidy Lemminger said. “Bella finished strong for us.”

Thomas and Amaya Wilson each had two base knocks.

Second-seeded Johnson Creek hosts seventh-seeded Waterloo in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal game on Tuesday. The contest at Centennial Park starts at 5 p.m.
