Bridgeport PD: Suspect in Bethel woman’s murder found in Ohio
BRIDGEPORT — In less than a week, Bridgeport police have filed charges against the man accused of murdering a 25-year-old Bethel woman in the city.
City detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 26-year-old Brandon Roberts on Wednesday, charging him with murder, felony murder, first-degree robbery, using a firearm in commission of a felony and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Emily Todd, 25, was found fatally shot on Seaview Avenue near the Newfield Avenue boat ramp on Dec. 9.
“Detectives quickly developed a suspect in the case who was identified as Brandon Roberts,” a statement from police said. “We learned that Roberts fled the state and was staying at his father’s residence in Shaker Heights, Ohio.”
After getting the arrest warrant, detectives traveled to Ohio and worked with Shaker Heights police to plan the arrest of Roberts, police said.
“Early this morning, Roberts was taken into custody without incident and charged as fugitive from justice in Ohio,” police said. “We expect that he will be extradited back to Connecticut in the near future.”
Bridgeport Police Chief Armando Perez praised the Detective Bureau, calling the detectives “second to none.”
“Under Capt. Brian Fitzgerald and Lt. Chris LaMaine, they conducted a very, very thorough investigation,” Perez said. “We went above and beyond ... I’m very proud of the detectives who worked on this case. They did an extraordinary job right from the get-go.”
He called the case heart-wrenching and said it was one that touched his heart.
“We wanted to bring justice for Emily’s family,” he said. “We used every tool, every resource available to us to identify him and track him down.”
