Search for body of missing boy suspended

December 6, 2018

Search and rescue crews comb the Skagit River on Friday for the body of a missing 2-year-old boy.

The search for the body of a boy missing in the Skagit River for almost a week has been suspended until water conditions are more favorable.

Search and rescue teams continued to comb the river Tuesday looking for the body of Star Austin Rogers-White, known as Austin, who went missing Nov. 29 after he apparently drove a toy electric vehicle into the river.

Because the water level had dropped and the tides were extremely low, dive teams and boats were on the river Tuesday afternoon and again in the evening, said Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Patrol Chad Clark.

“There was a lot more of the bank and a lot more of the river bottom than there was before,” Clark said.

Searchers did not locate the boy, Clark said.

Going forward, Clark said the search will be re-evaluated as conditions allow.
