1984 Olympic boxing champion shot in Bosnian Serb town
BANJA LUKA, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) _ A former Yugoslav boxing champion who won a disputed gold medal in the 1984 Olympics was shot and seriously injured Tuesday in a Bosnian Serb town.
Antun Josipovic was sitting in a Banja Luka cafe when a man approached him and shot him twice in the chest, witnesses said. He was reportedly in critical condition. Police were investigating.
Josipovic, a Bosnian Croat now living in Croatia, was awarded the gold for Yugoslavia in Los Angeles when heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield _ then a rising star favored to win the gold _ was disqualified in the semifinal round for knocking out his opponent after the final bell.
Josipovic further created a stir when he invited Holyfield to stand beside him at the awards ceremony.
