AMTRAK-ST LOUIS-TO-CHICAGO CORRIDOR

ST. LOUIS _ While most of a $1.95-billion upgrade of the St. Louis-to-Chicago Amtrak corridor was finished a year ago, long-promised faster rail journeys on the route have yet to happen. Delays in installing and testing new GPS-related safety technology have kept Amtrak trains from hitting high speeds of 90 mph during 2018 as the Illinois Department of Transportation had predicted. ARABIAN HORSES-SAUDI ARABIA

FREEBURG, Ill. _ The owner of a southwestern Illinois farm is breeding Arabian horses in an unlikely bid to sell the animals to buyers in Saudi Arabia. Rodger Davis owns the 300-acre Riding Center near Freeburg, just east of St. Louis. Davis told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he’s been meeting with Saudi officials in hopes of striking a long-term business deal to breed his horses with the country’s dwindling stock. GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN-AIRPORTS

NEW YORK _ The federal agency tasked with guaranteeing U.S. airport security acknowledged an increase in the number of its employees calling off work during the partial government shutdown . CHICAGO _ Matt Nagy recalled watching the Super Bowl with his wife at a bar near the Chicago Bears’ practice facility not long after he was hired as his good friend Doug Pederson coached the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl championship. The place was just about empty. He even had to ask them to turn on the game. “It was awesome,” he said. Nagy hopes things don’t go so well for his pal when the NFC North champion Bears host Philadelphia in a wild card game packed with story lines on Sunday. By Sports Writer Andrew Seligman.
