Dramatic Finishing Touch Lifts Red Rangers to Win

The Methuen/Tewksbury girls hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to beat Shrewsbury, 4-3, in a semifinal game of the Newburyport Bank Classic at the Graf Arena.

Defenseman Madi Sjostedt scored the winning goal with 34 seconds left to play as Methuen/ Tewksbury overcame a 3-1 third period deficit while rallying past Shrewsbury.

Carolyn Curley assisted on the game-winning goal.

Cassidy Gruning netted 3 goals for the Red Rangers.

Methuen/Tewksbury will play Masconomet Regional in the championship game Thursday at 7 p.m. Masconomet defeated Billerica/ Chelms-ford, 5-3, in its semifinal matchup Tuesday.

Senior captain Kayleigh Butler scored the tying goal with an assist from Lexi Warner with 5 minutes remaining in this opening round game of the Hingham Showcase Tournament at Pilgrim Arena.

Junior Allie Dean (28 saves) had a strong game in goal.

Kim Cornetta, Jackie Ricko, Kendall Donovan and Meghan Mulhern led the way on defense for the Grey Ghosts (12-5-2).

Duxbury is 17-0-2.

Westford will play Braintree on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Pilgrim Arena.


Medford 4

Chelmsford 1

Medford scored a pair of empty-net goals in the final minute while defeating Chelmsford in a consolation round game of the Cahoon Tournament at the Burlington Ice Palace.

After falling behind 2-0, Chelmsford cut the deficit in half when Jack Adamson scored with an assist from Chad Lizine in the second period.

Drew Blodgett made 21 saves in goal for the Lions (9-7-4).

Chelmsford will play Burlington in the consolation game Thursday at the Ice Palace at 5 p.m.

The MIAA tournament pairings for both boys and girls hockey will be announed on Saturday.
