Four seriously injured in rural Winona car accident

Four were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries after a car accident in rural Winona County Friday morning.

According to Chief Deputy Jeff Mueller of the Winona County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 6 and County Road 33 south of Utica.

Mueller said a 79-year-old woman was traveling south on County Road 33 in a Dodge van when she was struck by a 40-year-old woman in a red Dodge van traveling on County Road 6.

According to scanner traffic, the Lewiston Fire Department was dispatched to extricate the passengers from the crumpled vehicles.

Both woman and two passengers in the red van, ages 37 and 73, were seriously injured in the crash and were transported by ambulance to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Multiple agencies, including the Winona County Sheriff’s, Lewiston Fire, St. Charles Ambulance, Police and Fire departments, Altura Ambulance Service and the Minnesota State Patrol, assisted on the call.
