High school basketball: Fairland stops Gallia Academy 69-44

CENTENARY, Ohio — Sophomore guard Clayton Thomas scored 19 points to lead Fairland (8-4 overall, 4-1 Ohio Valley Conference) to a 69-44 victory over Gallia Academy (6-3, 3-2) Friday night in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Austin Gartin scored 17 points for the Dragons and Ian Chinn 11.

Justin McClelland paced the Blue Devils with 10 points.

NEW BOSTON 75, SYMMES VALLEY 67: Kyle Sexton scored 24 points and Tyler Caldwell 23 for the Tigers in a triumph over the Vikings. Grady Jackson scored 15. Jack Leith led Symmes Valley with 29 points.

PORTSMOUTH 80, ROCK HILL 61: Matt Fraulini scored a school-record 46 points, 34 in the second half, to help the Trojans defeat the Redmen in Portsmouth, Ohio. Fraulini’s performance broke the school record of 45 points set by Jayllen Carter.

LOGAN 69, HERBERT HOOVER 40: Mitchell Hainer’s 15 points led the Wildcats (9-1). David Early and Drew Hatfield both scored 14. Peter Noe pulled down 11 rebounds.

Rhett White tossed in 19 points to lead the Huskies.

Logan has a 7:30 p.m. Saturday game at Wayne.

CROSS LANES CHRISTIAN 74, CALVARY BAPTIST 66: Ethan Hicks and Brendan Jeffrey each led Cross Lanes Christian with 16 points in a balanced scoring attack that topped Calvary Baptist.

Calvary Baptist (12-4) got 27 points from Issac Massie while Robert Clutter added 25 points and 17 rebounds in the loss.

In addition to Hicks and Jeffrey, Cross Lanes Christian (6-4) got 11 points from Tray Lowery and 10 each from Parker Holbert and Reed Fisher.

Freshman Blake Anderson led Chesapeake with nine points. Maddy Petro scored 15, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked five shots for Gallia Academy.

IRONTON 38, PORTSMOUTH 25: The Fighting Tigers (5-7 overall, 5-3 OVC) avenged an early season loss and broke the Trojans’ five-game winning streak with a victory in Portsmouth, Ohio. Haylee Stevens led Ironton with 14 points. Jaiden Rickett scored nine for Portsmouth (6-7, 3-5).

WAYNE 57, HERBERT HOOVER 35: Lakyn Adkins buried five 3-pointers, scored 16 and the Pioneers (11-1) went on the road to take down the Huskies (6-7). Allison Dunbar recorded a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead Herbert Hoover.

IRONTON ST. JOE 47, HANNAN 18: Kaitlyn Sheridan scored 14 and Bella Whaley 10 to pace the Flyers (6-7) over the Wildcats (4-6) in Ironton, Ohio. Julie Frazier led Hannan with nine points.

BOYD COUNTY 91, GREENUP COUNTY 34: Harley Paynter scored 18 and Savannah Wheeler 16 as the Lions (15-2) clobbered the Musketeers (2-14). Bailey Rucker chipped in 13 points and Audrey Biggs 10. Maggie Miller led Greenup County with 15 points.

WINFIELD 55, POINT PLEASANT 45: The Generals (9-3) used an early 16-0 run to take control in a triumph over the Big Blacks (1-12) in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Z.Z. Russell scored 12 for Winfield. Allison Henderson topped Point Pleasant with 14.

WHEELERSBURG 52, OAK HILL 42: The Pirates (10-3 overall, 8-1 Southern Ohio Conference) took sole possession of first place in the league by beating the Oaks in Oak Hill, Ohio. Kaylee Darnell led Wheelersburg with 18 points. Alaina Keeney scored 15 and Ellie Kallner 11. Caitlyn Brisker led Oak Hill with 17.

GREEN 42, EASTERN-PIKE 29: Kasey Kimbler scored 16 and Kame Sweeney 14 as the Bobcats (5-9 overall, 4-5 SOC) defeated the Eagles. Abbie Cochenour led Eastern (4-5, 4-4) with 18 points.

SCOTT 83, WAYNE 59: Jon Jon Hamilton scored 33 as the Skyhawks (7-5) beat the visiting Pioneers (3-6). Bryan Sansom scored 20 and Nick Bryant 18 for Wayne.

CHAPMANVILLE 76, POCA 51: Obinna Anochili-Killen scored 24, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked seven shots to lead the Tigers (10-1), top-ranked in Class AA, in a rout of the Dots (6-4) in Chapmanville, West Virginia. Brandon Elkins came off the bench to score 15, Devin Collins added 12 and Andrew Shull 11. Noah Luikhart led Poca with 17 points.
