Speaker focuses on mental health during Memorial Day speech
The crowd at Stearns Park was silent as keynote speaker, veteran U.S. Army Sgt. Andria Beaushaw choked back tears during her speech on Monday during Memorial Day services hosted by the Mason County Allied Veterans Council.
Overwhelmed, she stepped back from the podium.
Her friend and supporter, Michelle Hemmer, Mason County Allied Veterans Council president, put a hand on her shoulder as people watched at Stearns Park in Ludington.
They shared a moment between them, quietly speaking to each other.
Hesitantly, Beaushaw walked forward to the podium.
“You got this girl,” someone cheered from the crowd.
