Marching bands coming to Friendswood competition

The public is invited to the Friendswood “Small Town, Big Sound” marching festival, scheduled for Sept. 29 at Henry Winston Stadium, 702 Greenbriar Ave., Friendswood.

Gates open at 11:30 a.m. for the marching band competition in which high schools in classes 4A, 5A and 6A will be scored on percussion, auxiliary, general effect, visual performance and music performance.

Tickets for an all-day pass cost $15 each, and tickets for preliminaries or finals only will cost $10 each. Children under age 6 are admitted free of charge.

Participants include Friendswood High’s Mighty Mustang Band and bands from the following high schools: Angleton, Ball, Clear Brook, Clear Falls, Clear Lake, Dawson, Dickinson, Dobie, Pearland and Texas City.

The stadium will close at 5 p.m. when the preliminaries end and reopen at 6 p.m. for the start of finals. The Friendswood High band will perform at 9 p.m.

Limited parking is available in the parking lot next to the stadium and at the natatorium. Parking will be available from Westwood Elementary School and with shuttle service to the stadium.
