MARION, Ohio (AP) — Her hometown schools have named two new locations after former U.S. Treasurer Mary Ellen Withrow.

The Marion City School District announced the two alternative school sites in August. They are now called Mary Ellen Withrow Middle School and Mary Ellen Withrow High School.

The 88-year-old Withrow, a Marion native, was tapped by Democratic President Bill Clinton to become the nation’s 40th treasurer, serving from 1994 to 2001.

Marion Superintendent Ronald Iarussi said in a release that he met with Withrow and she was honored by the naming.

Withrow, a Democrat, is the only person ever to serve as a county, state and U.S. treasurer. Her signature became ubiquitous on U.S. paper money in the 1990s following the redesign of the $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills.
