ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) _ Bill Borchert passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more as Mount Union used a 35-point second quarter to defeat Illinois Wesleyan 49-14 on Saturday for the NCAA Division III North Region championship.

Borchert connected on 19 of 26 passes for 228 yards as the Purple Raiders (12-0) advanced to next Saturday's division semifinals. The winners of the semifinal matches will play Dec. 14 in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl at Salem, Va.

Illinois Wesleyan (10-1) scored first on a 4-yard pass from Lon Erickson to Ryan Tusek in the first quarter. Erickson also threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Dana Smith in the third quarter.

The rest of the game belonged to Mount Union, which scored five touchdowns in the second quarter and led the Titans 42-7 at halftime.

In the quarter, Borchert had scoring passes of 20 yards to Brian Tyla and 25 to Brian Flinn. Mount Union also got scoring runs of 17 yards from Borchert, 20 from Eric Brock and 1 from Marc Lantos during the period.

Lantos scored Mount Union's first touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Borchert in the opening quarter. Borchert added a third-quarter touchdown run of 50 yards to complete the team's scoring.

Borchert was the game's leading rusher with 97 yards.
