NEW YORK (AP) - George Buckheit of Pomona, N.Y., with a time of 19 minutes, 18 seconds, won the New York Road Runners Club Labor Day four-mile run in a light drizzle at Central Park.

Dan Dickenson of Reebok Track Club finished second, 250 yards behind, in 19:42. Paul Ruston of the Weitold’s Runners was third in the field of 956 in 21:10.

Mary Brayley of Cambridge, England, won the women’s division in meet record time of 22:49, beating the mark set by Cass Young of 23:01, set last year.

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Jets acquired nose tackle Don Smith from the Buffalo Bills Monday for a conditional late round pick in the 1988 draft.

In other moves, the NFL team placed defensive tackle Jerome Smith on the injured reserve.
