5 new gas wells coming to Upper Burrell drilling site
Five more natural gas wells will be coming to Upper Burrell soon.
Huntley & Huntley of Monroeville will be drilling five wells at the Zeus site near the corner of Guyer and Bethesda roads.
Kimberly Price of Huntley & Huntley said slightly smaller rigs will be used than what were employed at the first Zeus well earlier this year.
Price said crews will return later to drill the horizontal wells at the Zeus pad.
No one at the township supervisors’ meeting Wednesday opposed Huntley & Huntley’s plans, which is a far cry from late last year as controversy erupted when the well pad was proposed after supervisors passed an overlay ordinance. The ordinance allows drilling in residential/agricultural zoning districts when conditional use requests are approved.
Huntley & Huntley uses Greek gods to name its well sites.
Zeus is the ruler of Olympic gods in Greek mythology. The holding pond is named Thalia, the daughter of Zeus.
Huntley & Huntley has a drilling project in Elizabeth Township referred to Apollo B. A Plum site is called Midas and sites in Penn Township are known as Poseidon, Metis and Gaia.
Supervisors also approved a plan to fix the site distances at the corner of Oak Lake and White Cloud roads. Large trucks related to natural gas drilling can’t see to make a left turn safely.
The township negotiated with Arconic, Inc., formerly Alcoa, for an easement after safety concerns were raised.
Huntley & Huntley also notified Upper Burrell officials about plans to drill two more natural gas wells at the Willowbrook Road site in neighboring Allegheny Township.
