GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bianchi, Valley View Take Down Lakeland

Skylar Bianchi scored eight of her game-high

17 points in the second quarter when No. 7 Valley View blanked Lakeland in posting a 53-31 win in the first round of the Lou Camoni Memorial Tournament on Thursday.

Bianchi also finished with nine rebounds and Faith Hedricks scored 11 for the Cougars, who advanced to Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. final against Mid Valley.

Colby White scored nine for Lakeland, which will play Carbondale in the

6 p.m. consolation game.

Maria Tully and Clair Marion each scored five points in the fourth quarter as No. 6 Abington Heights rallied for a 43-39 win over Minersville in the first round of the Gatorade Classic at Martz Hall.

19 points for the Lady Comets, Erin Albright had eight points and eight rebounds and Anna Scoblick had nine rebounds.

Abington Heights will play Pottsville in the championship game tonight at 7:30. Minersville will play Whitehall in the consolation game at 6. Pottsville defeated Whitehall, 36-33, in the first round.
