Police shoot, kill man brandishing a BB gun
REDDING, Calif. (AP) — Police in Northern California say a man they shot and killed at a group home over the weekend was pointing a BB gun at officers who mistook it for a semi-automatic weapon.
The Record Searchlight reported Monday that police responded to a call Saturday of a suspicious man in the backyard of a home in Anderson, near the city of Redding.
Three officers arrived to find the man holding what appeared to be a handgun. The officers said they tried to negotiate with the man, but he would not follow commands.
Police said the man began waving his gun and pointing it at officers, one of whom shot him. He died on the scene.
Identities of the victim and officer have not been released.
