Slicers boys hoops claims pair in shootout

La Porte’s boys basketball team won two games in the IWU Shootout at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion on Friday. The Slicers routed Twin Lakes 74-45 on Friday morning, then prevailed 82-79 over Logansport on Friday afternoon.

The Indians dropped to 7-3. That was the Berries’ first loss of the season, as they fell to 9-1. La Porte improved to 6-4 and has won four straight. The Slicers next play their Duneland Athletic Conference opener at Lake Central next Friday night.

Blazer boys fall to Perry Meridian in Lebanon Tourney

Three Blazers scored in double figures on Friday against Perry Meridian, led by Colin Kenney’s 15 points, but Marquette fell against the Falcons, 62-56. The Falcons outscored the Blazers 20-12 in the third period, with Kenney leading a fourth-quarter charge by scoring nine of his 15 in the final frame. The Blazers will face Greenfield-Central in the Lebanon Holiday Tournament at Lebanon High School at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Cougar grapplers capture Super Duals, now 26-2

New Prairie’s wrestling team defended their title, winning the Lafayette Jefferson Willey Super Duals with a score of 534 on Friday. The Cougars went 10-0 to improve their record to 26-2, beating Cascade, West Lafayette, New Castle, Lafayette Jeff, Rossville, Crawfordsville, Clinton Central, Central Catholic, Kokomo, and Delphi. New Prairie has now won this Super Dual four out of the last eight years. The Cougars have another big week next week. They face South Bend St. Joseph on Thursday, before hosting their annual Super Duals next Saturday.

Westville boys hoops falls to Senators

Westville’s boys basketball team lost 66-50 to Washington Township at home on Friday night. Preston Lake paced the Blackhawks (4-4, 2-2 Porter County Conference) with 12 points, going 4-of-7 behind the arc, and Jace Woods had 11 points, seven assists and three steals. Jose Jenkins finished with nine points and six rebounds. The Senators improved to 6-2, 2-0 in the PCC.

LP moves swim sectional, basketball game

The boys swim sectional originally scheduled at La Porte on Feb. 14 & 16 will now be at Chesterton High School. The Slicers JV & varsity boys basketball home games versus Goshen on Feb. 16 will now be played on Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. at Slicer Gym. La Porte will be one of the northern hosts for the girls basketball semistate on Feb. 16.

PNW hosting baseball camp

Purdue University Northwest is hosting a four-week baseball camp at its Westville campus starting Jan. 13. Assistant coach Shane Prance will direct the program in conjunction with the U.S. Baseball Academy. Classes are available for players in grades 1-12 and are limited to seven players per coach. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and base running. Space is limited. Registration is underway.
