Family of woman killed by bus to get $5 million settlement

February 8, 2018

FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) — The family of a woman dragged to her death by a bus will receive $5 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit.

The Record reports the settlement between Rainbow Transportation and Leyla Kan’s family was announced Wednesday.

Kan was struck and killed in 2014 by a bus driven by Esperanza Jaramillo. Police say the bus dragged Kan 71 feet.

Jaramillo eventually pleaded guilty to charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian who had the right of way and driving a vehicle with badly worn tires.

Robert Linder, an attorney representing the family, says his clients are relieved the case is over.

An attorney for Rainbow Transportation declined to comment.
