Search Begun for Family Members of 39 Vietnam Casualties
WASHINGTON (AP) _ A search is under way for family members of 39 casualties of the Vietnam War whose names are being added to those listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
The 39 casualties are among 109 names that were omitted from the list of Vietnam War dead originally inscribed on the V-shaped memorial on the Mall in Washington.
A Memorial Day ceremony is planned to honor the servicemen who are being added, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is trying to locate the family members to invite them to the ceremony.
″Neither the Defense Department nor the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund have addresses for any relatives of these men,″ said Rebecca Kirtland, vice president of the fund.
The names of 95 servicemen who died during the Vietnam War were left off the Memorial because of a technicality, and 14 others who are being added died later of wounds sustained in Vietnam, she said.
Anyone knowing relatives of one of the following names is asked to call the fund at 202-659-9419.
