Video captures ‘brazen’ theft of car at gas pumps

May 22, 2019

NAUGATUCK - A 2015 Audi A5 was stolen Tuesday after the vehicle’s owner finished filling it up at the Cumberland Farms gas pumps.

In the surveillance footage, the victim (yellow shirt) can be seen fueling his vehicle when an unknown suspect enters the driver’s side of the vehicle and leaves with it.

The theft happened at 5:50 p.m. on North Main Street.

Police said a newer model white Lexus, which is believed to be involved in this incident, is also seen in the video leaving the area.

The black Audi’s Connecticut license plates is AU23947.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the price of a 2015 Audi A5 with low mileage is about $25,000.

“The video quality is low due to it being transmitted in from the field for the community and our followers to view immediately. It is our belief that a brazen daylight theft of a vehicle like this should be disseminated quickly to public so that you can take precautions when fueling your vehicle. This is balanced against the often lengthy and cumbersome process of downloading higher quality footage over several media devices and several days to prep it for a higher quality release,” police said.

If anyone as information about this incident please contact Naugatuck Police at (203) 729-5221.
