Irishman arrested at Diana’s home found dead on beach
ORANMORE, Ireland (AP) _ An Irishman who was arrested twice last year on the grounds of Princess Diana’s London home was found dead on a beach Friday, a news agency reported.
Liam Whitney, 37, was believed to have drowned but an autopsy was being performed Friday night in nearby Galway, on Ireland’s west coast, the British news agency Press Association said.
Whitney, from Tullamore, Ireland, was arrested in May and July 1996 on the grounds of Kensington Palace, after apparently scaling high railings to get close to the royal residence.
He did not get into the palace but was fined by magistrates in each incident. Whitney had previously sent cards and letters to the palace, and he told police he had wanted to see Diana.
Whitney’s body was found by a local farmer in the seaside village of Oranmore, about 130 miles west of the Dublin.
