Cause of power outage discovered

September 22, 2018

Oncor Electric found the reason for Thursday’s power outage in east Odessa.

Gus Ortega, customer operations manager for Oncor, said over the phone Friday that an underground primary cable failed at UTPB campus. Ortega said the Oncor crews restored power around 6:40 p.m. Thursday.

“We have common outages every day around our serving area,” Ortega said. “We have those outages and it’s usually some kind of failure that happens. It could be a car or wildlife that affects some of that. They are just common outages daily. Some days we have more than others, but there are different outages that cause that.”

The outages caused afternoon and evening classes to UTPB to be cancelled Thursday. Nimitz Middle School was also without power part of the afternoon.
