Busy day for college signings
Numerous La Porte County athletes will be signing national letters of intent today to make their college plans official. The list includes: La Porte’s Riley Ott (basketball, Purdue Fort Wayne); Michigan City’s Hannah Noveroske (basketball, Xavier) and Jack Smith (swimming, Purdue); Marquette’s Colin Kenney (basketball, Furman); Carson Husmann (baseball, Bradley) and Kyle Schmack (baseball, Valparaiso). Additionally, Emma and Sophia Nolan of Marquette will do their signings for St. John’s basketball Thursday.
Semistate tickets, game info
Tickets for Saturday’s Class 5A northern semistate at New Palestine are on sale in the Michigan City High School athletics office all week. The cost is $10. Two fan buses, one for students and one for adults, will be leaving from the front of the school at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $20, which includes a game ticket. Sign-ups for the bus are also being taken in the athletics office. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. New Palestine encourages fans traveling from Michigan City to access the school campus at the southwest entrance from U.S. 52; turn right (south) on Gem Road/CR500W, and enter from that direction. Don’t use the main entrance off 52 as access to the stadium will be limited.
Westville girls hoops cruises
Westville’s girls basketball team routed South Bend Career Academy 63-9 at home Tuesday night. Peyton Rodgers paced the Blackhawks (2-1) with 14 points, six steals and five rebounds, and Sarah Weston scored 12. Nicole Albers added nine points, and Grace Weston recorded nine assists. Westville led 23-3 after the first quarter, and was firmly in command, 40-5, at half.
Glenn girls hoops downs CGA
John Glenn’s girls basketball team beat Culver Girls Academy 56-32 Tuesday night at home. Seja Lang scored all 17 of her points in the first half for the Falcons (3-1), and Bethany Hayden tallied 18 points. Morgan Plunkett added six points, and Abby Machnic netted eight. Glenn outscored the Eagles 22-6 in the opening period and was ahead 35-16 at the break. The Falcons’ JV rolled 66-15. Glenn returns to action Friday night at La Porte.
O-D girls hoops falls to KV
Oregon-Davis’ girls basketball team lost 84-51 to Kankakee Valley at home Tuesday night. Mercedes Rhodes led the Bobcats (3-1) with 24 points, including five 3-pointers, and Jaden Worthington also reached double figures with 10 points. Katie Sauer chipped in nine points. O-D dug itself a 23-11 hole after the first quarter and trailed by 19 at the break.
