AP FACT CHECK: A Trump-eye view of his world travels
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has claimed his Asia travels produced “tremendous success.” But Associated Press Fact Checks find little has changed.
For example, he’s cited an agreement with China on how to deal with North Korea. China says no such agreement took place.
Trump also cites progress in relations with the Philippines. In doing so, he’s telling a made-up story about past relations being so bad that the Philippines wouldn’t let President Barack Obama land.
Trump also claims billions of dollars are pouring into NATO because he’s persuaded member countries to do more on an earlier trip.
The issue is about how much countries in the alliance spend on their own military budgets. That appears to be increasing, but it’s hard to find Trump’s fingerprints on that.
