NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ The fourth suspect sought in connection with the killing of NFL player Bennie Thompson’s ex-wife and their 3-year-old son was in jail today, booked with those murders and six others.
Juan ``Short Dog″ Smith, 20, was arrested without incident late Sunday in a drugstore parking lot, police said.
He was booked with the Feb. 5 murders of Tangie Thompson, 29; 3-year-old Devin Thompson;and Ms. Thompson’s fiance, Andre White, 29.
Police said robbery was the motive for the killings. Two men were arrested earlier in New Orleans and a third surrendered in Melbourne, Fla.
Thompson is head of special teams for the Cleveland Browns, and used to play for the New Orleans Saints. Police had said Thompson was not ruled out as a suspect until Smith and the others were identified in June.
Earlier this month, Smith was named as a suspect in a March 1 shooting that killed four men and a woman. Police have not said what the motive was in those shootings.
