CUMMING, Ga. (AP) — A commissioner in Georgia's Forsyth County has resigned after less than a year on the job.

District 2 Commissioner Rick Swope's resignation went into effect at noon Tuesday. County officials say it's the result of his acceptance of an executive position with E(asterisk)TRADE, an investment and stock trading firm. Officials said the job came with the requirement that outside business activities be strictly limited, including public service positions.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Swope, in a statement, said he regrets not being able to complete his term.

County officials say a special election will be needed to fill Swope's term, which runs through Dec. 31, 2020.

The five-person commission has members elected by district to serve four-year terms. District 2 covers much of the southern portion of the county.
