Chateau alley closing as work starts on theater
The alley east of the historic Chateau Theatre will be closed for six months.
Rochester Public Works announced the closing as Benike Construction prepares to start a $1.1 million renovation that will make way for an interim use for the city-owned building. Work includes interior reconstruction to make way for temporary use, as well as roofing repairs.
Approximately 160 feet of the alley will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic through June 30.
The city is taking proposals for interim operation and management of the historic theater as a long-term plan is being developed.
