Police: Man fled in stolen vehicle before crashing into Fayetteville power pole
A Fayetteville man has been charged in connection with a crash that resulted in a power outage Monday night.
Fayetteville police said officers saw a vehicle speeding excessively on Ireland Drive near Coventry Drive at about 8:15 p.m. Monday. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which crashed into a utility pole near Village Drive, police said.
The crash resulted in a power outage that lasted several hours and the temporary closure of Ireland Drive.
Fayetteville police on Tuesday charged Malachi Hart, 18, of the 400 block of Buxton Boulevard with felony fleeing to elude with a motor vehicle, hit-and-run, driving with a revoked license, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police said the Honda Civic crashed by Hart had been stolen from the parking lot of an apartment complex on Adams Lake Drive on Friday morning.
Hart, who was initially taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, was being held Tuesday night at the Cumberland County Detention Center under $30,000 bond.
