Ironton’s Memorial Day weekend activities begin
IRONTON — All around town, Ironton residents are gearing up for one of their busiest weekends of the year as part of the nation’s longest continuously running Memorial Day parade.
“It’s one big family reunion,” Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith said Wednesday. “So many people in our community are impacted by this parade. If you’ve lived in Ironton, you’ve been part of the parade in some form or fashion. I’m really looking forward to it. It is Ironton’s homecoming.”
Lawrence County Commissioner Freddie Hayes Jr. said 20,000 people will watch the parade that starts adjacent to the courthouse, heads through the downtown and winds through a residential section of South 6th Street.
