SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) _ Southwest Texas State took an early 20-8 lead by forcing the ball up the court and getting some easy looks inside. The Bobcats held on for an 82-73 victory Saturday night.

Jeff Foster scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures for Southwest Texas (6-6, 2-0 Southland) and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds. Keith Richard scored 24 points to lead Nicholls (3-8, 0-2).

The Bobcats converted nine of 12 free throws in the final two minutes.

SWT got 13 points from Carlos Morris, 12 points from Rodney Walton and 11 from Geoff Golden.

NSU's leading scorer for the season, Kenderick Franklin, scored 14 points on 3-of-19 shooting.

Golden's three-point shot increased the SWT lead to 24-10 at the eight minute mark. Successive three-point plays by Morris gave the Bobcats a 44-26 lead with 90 seconds left in the half, and it was 46-29 at intermission.

An 11-2 run by the Colonels cut the deficit to single digits in the second half and got within five at 73-68.

Two free throws by Dante Mathis gave Southwest Texas a 77-70 lead at 1:18, and Nicholls couldn't recover.
