Edwards’ scoring, rebounding lifts Knights over Capital

CHARLESTON — Jake Edwards scored 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as Cabell Midland (4 - 0) defeated Capital (2-1) 68-57 Tuesday night in high school boys basketball.

Jaren Womack scored 16 points and Isaiah Collins 10 for the Knights. Chandler Schmidt scored nine points and issued seven assists.

“We were both undefeated,” Cabell Midland coach Rick Chaffin said. “It’s a big win.”

The Knights return to action Dec. 29 at home vs. Fayetteville.

WHEELERSBURG 75, WAVERLY 57: Wright State University signee Tanner Holden scored 34 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Pirates to a home victory over the Tigers. J.J. Truitt scored 17 for Wheelersburg. Cody Remington and Ethan Dunn led Waverly with 13 points each.

NEW BOSTON 75, GREEN 57: The Tigers scored 50 points combined in the second and third quarters. Kyle Sexton paced New Boston with 25 points. Gage Sampson led Green with 32 points.

CALVARY BAPTIST 74, POINT PLEASANT 37: Robert Clutter, a 6-foot-5 junior, scored 24 points as the Patriots (8-2) defeated the Big Blacks (0-2). Issac Massie scored 15 points for Calvary Baptist Academy. Jordan Ruby scored 11 and Scotty Parsons 10. Hunter Bush paced Point Pleasant with 13 points. Braxton Yates chipped in 12.

BOYD COUNTY 66, RUSSELL 60: Talbott Taylor scored 20 points and snatched eight rebounds to help the Lions beat the Red Devils. Blake Stewart scored 17 and Carson Webb 15 for Boyd County. Tristan Miller led Russell with 18 points and seven rebounds.

LOGAN 82, MINGO CENTRAL 45: David Early’s 29 points and Peter Noe’s double-double game with 11 points and 11 rebounds led the Wildcats (4-0) in a road win. Drew Hatfield tacked on 17 points and delivered nine assists.

Jacob May tossed in 10 points for the Miners (0-2).

JOHNSON CENTRAL 74, LAWRENCE CO. 55: Isiah May (17), Jacob Rice (16) and Gabe Ferrell (16) had double-figure points for the Golden Eagles (3-1) in a win over the Bulldogs (6-3) in Louisa, Kentucky. Chase Sartin and Tyler Maynard topped Lawrence County’s scoring with 14 and 11 respectively.

LOGAN 58, MINGO CENTRAL 38: Jill Tothe scored 21 and Peyton Ilderton 14 as the Wildcats (5-0) rolled by the Miners (1-5). Scarlett Thomas led Mingo Central with 15 points. Savannah Hinton scored 10.

HANNAN 71, WIRT COUNTY 65: Chandler Starkey scored 23 and the Wildcats (2-2) made four key free throws in the final 30 seconds in a victory over the Tigers (3-2) in Ashton, West Virginia. Dalton Coleman scored 20. Andrew Gillispie and Casey Lowery scored 11 each. Hunter Hickman led Wirt County with 16 points. Kyle Carper scored 12 and Justin Windland 11.

GALLIA ACADEMY 44, RIVER VALLEY 31: Hunter Copley and Maddy Petro powered the Blue Angels (4-4) over the Raiders (4-6). Copley scored 18 and pulled down 11 rebounds. Petro chipped in 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Hannah Jacks paced River Valley with 12 points.

COAL GROVE 57, LINCOLN COUNTY 55: Baylee McKnight’s basket at the buzzer gave the Hornets (6-3) a triumph over the Panthers (1-2) in Hamlin, West Virginia. McKnight led Coal Grove with 19 points. Addi Dillow scored 17. Natalie Fout and Carly McComas paced Lincoln County with 17 points each and Graci Brumfield scored 14.

WAHAMA 57, FEDERAL HOCKING 44: Harley Roush scored 19 points as the White Falcons (3-2 overall, 3-2 Tri-Valley Conference) beat the Lancers in Mason, West Virginia. Hannah Rose scored 18 and Emma Gibbs 12. Federal Hocking (2-6, 2-3) was led by Paige Tolson’s 17 points.
