Tigers Place Palmer on DL
DETROIT (AP) _ The Detroit Tigers placed Dean Palmer on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of recurring neck and shoulder injuries.
Palmer is hitting .140 with six RBIs in 26 games this season, mostly as a designated hitter. He missed all but four games last year with injuries, and he underwent cervical disc surgery on May 3, 2002.
To fill Palmer’s spot on the roster, Detroit purchased the contract of infielder Kevin Witt from Triple-A Toledo. He was expected to play Friday against Seattle.
Witt was hitting .305 with 10 doubles, nine home runs and 27 RBIs for the Mud Hens. He was leading the International League in homers and extra-base hits (19).
