Man gets life plus 65 years for killing adopted autistic son

August 4, 2018

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — A man convicted of drowning his adopted autistic son last year has been sentenced to life in prison without parole plus an additional 65 years.

WXIA-TV reports Leon Williams was sentenced Friday. The former Georgia Department of Administrative Services worker has admitted to striking 10-year-old Kentae Williams with a belt and holding him under bath water. The scalding water left burns on Kentae, who had autism and communication issues. He was adopted months before his death.

Williams was convicted last month by a jury in DeKalb County. He argued Kentae’s April 2017 death was accidental and that he only wanted to punish Kentae for refusing to bathe and cursing at a teacher. Prosecutors said a witness heard Williams tell Kentae he was going to die that night.
