1936 Heisman Up for Auction
NEW YORK (AP) _ Larry Kelley’s 1936 Heisman Trophy is among the sports memorabilia up for bid by Leland’s auction house Thursday.
Kelley, who played end for Yale, is in his 80s and decided to put the trophy up for auction. It carries a minimum bid of $25,000.
The only other Heisman ever put up for auction was the one presented to O.J. Simpson in 1968. It sold in February for $255,500.
Also on sale at the Leland’s auction is Bobby Jones’ green Masters jacket, carrying a minimum bid of $35,000.
Other items included in the two-day auction are a Babe Ruth cigar contract from 1919, carrying a minimum bid of $350; a baseball used in Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series, listed at $3,000; and Fenway Park’s home plate from the 1975 World Series, also listed at $3,000.
