SHANGHAI, China (AP) _ Fire swept through the train station in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing, collapsing the roof of its main waiting room and killing one person, a state newspaper said Saturday.

Nearly 300 passengers were evacuated from the waiting room amid exploding glass Friday before the roof fell in, the China Daily said.

The blaze took 200 firefighters with 36 fire engines more than one hour to extinguish. Power to the station was knocked out for more than six hours, but train traffic was unaffected, the newspaper said.

A 40-year-old salesman who rented a stall in the waiting room was killed, the newspaper said.

Authorities were investigating whether the fire, which broke out in a karaoke lounge, was deliberately set, the report said.
