CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Jack Murdock completed 17-of-26 passes for 257 yards and a pair of touchdowns to help lead Newberry to a 35-6 victory over Charleston Southern Saturday.

Murdock tossed touchdown passes of 10 yards to Ike Allred early in the second quarter and connected with Rico Cannon from 40 yards out in the third quarter to seal Newberry’s fourth win in its last five games.

The Indians took the opening kickoff and marched 70 yards in six plays, capped by a 20-yard run by James Wiles with 11:51 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 Newberry lead.

Charleston Southern moved to the Newberry 45-yard line on their first possession of the game, but Andy Tarr’s pass was intercepted by Karass Cohen to end the drive.

The Bucs got back in the game for a brief time after the early 14-point Newberry attack. The team drove 80 yards on 14 plays, scoring on a 1-yard dive by Tarr, his third rushing touchdown of the season. Clint Kelly missed the extra point.

Newberry put the game out of reach in the opening stages of the third quarter. Booker Peake fumbled on Charleston Southern’s first play of the second half, with Butch Floyd recovering for Newberry at the Buccaneers’ 20-yard line.
