SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _ A teen-ager admitted that he killed his 2-year-old cousin by holding his hand over the boy’s mouth and suffocating him because he wouldn’t stop crying.
Robert J. Mantor, 16, pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree manslaughter in the death of Matthew Gregor in July. He said that in the heat of anger, he was acting with intent to seriously injure the toddler and ended up killing him.
``I’m glad that he pleaded guilty to this,″ Melissa Manser, the victim’s mother, told The Post-Standard of Syracuse, adding that she wanted her nephew punished with a state prison sentence.
Prosecutor Rick Trunfio said a county grand jury was considering whether to charge Manser for her conduct in leaving her son and some of his siblings in the care of Mantor, then 15.
Mantor will be sentenced July 17. He faces 1 1/3 to 4 years in jail.
