Community gives over $5,000 to schools through Aiken Standard’s Community Christmas Card

January 23, 2019

Aiken Standard Publisher Rhonda Overbey presented Dr. Sean Alford, the superintendent of Aiken County Public Schools, a check Tuesday representing donations to the 2018 Community Christmas Card.

During November and December of 2018, Aiken Standard readers and community members gave $5,150 to the second-annual holiday campaign. All of the money will help Aiken County students in need focus on their education. School counselors can use the money to buy warm coats, new shoes, eye glasses, book bags and other items for students or help help their families pay utility bills.

The total contributions for 2018 topped the year before, and participation and the size of donations increased, too, Overbey said.

“Not only did we receive more individuals participating this year but also the average contribution per donor increased,” she said.
