FIFA picks women’s World Cup referees; no video review yet

December 3, 2018

ZURICH (AP) — FIFA has named a 75-woman list of match officials for next year’s Women’s World Cup, with no specialist video review yet.

Seven months before the 24-team tournament opens in France, FIFA has not committed to the same video review system used at the men’s World Cup in Russia. The expected deadline to decide is a March 14-15 FIFA Council meeting in Miami.

A likely issue is potentially using male video assistant referees working with the all-female match official teams.

FIFA says it picked 27 referees and 48 assistants for duty from 42 different countries for the June 7-July 7 tournament. They include Kateryna Monzul of Ukraine, who refereed the 2015 Women’s World Cup final.
