Clarence “Sonny” Manker, 83, of Manteno, passed away Saturday (Jan. 26, 2019) in Kankakee. He was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Kankakee, the son of J. Bert and Hazel Hill Manker. He married Phyllis Craig on Oct. 3, 1964, in Kankakee, and she survives.
Sonny retired after 38 years at Amoco Chemical, where he worked as a pipefitter. He was a licensed plumber and journeyman pipe fitter for 62 years. He belonged to Locals 597 and 383 where he taught apprenticeship classes.
He was a member of Grace Community United Methodist Church in Bourbonnais and an active member of the board of trustees for Asbury UMC, Manteno UMC and Grace Community UMC.
He was a longtime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and he enjoyed flying, boating, water skiing and biking. He was a member of Manteno Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Paul Colwell, of Phoenix, Cathy Walker, of Manteno, and Amy and Dan Meyer, of Schaumburg; and grandchildren, Eric Colwell, Corinne (Walker) and Clayton Schultz, Brinna Walker, Sarah Meyer, Ellyse Walker, Nicholas Meyer and Emily Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Moran; brother, Warren Manker; and granddaughter, Rebecca Hamlin.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Brown Funeral Home in Manteno, with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, until the 11 a.m. funeral services at Grace Community United Methodist Church, Bourbonnais. The Rev. Amos Dillman will officiate. Pallbearers will be Joe, John and Rob Manker; Todd Ahrens; Matt Badgley and Eric Colwell. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Manteno.
