2 Portland officers involved in fatal shooting of man ID’d
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The names of two officers involved in the fatal police shooting of a man who was holding a woman at knifepoint Sunday in Portland’s Pearl District have been released.
The Portland Police Bureau said Monday that Officer Nathan Kirby-Glatkowski used lethal force, and Officer Jackson Oldham used less-lethal force.
Both have been placed on paid leave until an investigation is complete, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported .
The shooting happened after officers responded to reports of a man with a knife who was claiming to have an explosive device shortly before 10 a.m., Portland police spokeswoman Lt. Tina Jones said.
The officers confronted the man in a stairwell before shooting him. The man died at the scene, Jones said.
Police say the woman was hurt before the two police officers arrived.
She was taken to a hospital and released Sunday evening. Police declined to specify how she was hurt.
Neither the woman nor man has been publicly identified, and police haven’t said whether the two knew each other before the incident.
No explosives were found.
The shooting occurred in a stairwell at a building known as The Lovejoy that includes offices, stores including a Safeway grocery store and a parking garage.
The officers were not hurt during the confrontation, which was the third fatal Portland Police Bureau shooting this year.
