Paris Unveils Millennium Lights
PARIS (AP) _ Paris unveiled a stretch of glowing trees along the Champs Elysees on Thursday as part of celebrations to bring in the new millennium.
Along Paris’ most famous street, 200 projectors bathed trees in pale violet light. The glowing trees, wrapped up in white veils and tied with red bows, stretched from the Tuileries Garden west to the lit-up Arc de Triomphe.
Paris’ landmark bridges, too, are shining as part of the millennium festivities, with gentle spotlights placed under the arches to reflect light from the river.
Also Thursday, schoolchildren from more than 300 cities planted 3,000 trees from northern to southern France, inaugurating France’s tree-planting project for the year 2000.
