Schuyler Memorial Day ceremony honors fallen troops
Area residents young and old remembered fallen service members on Monday during Schuyler’s annual Memorial Day remembrance ceremony held at Schuyler Cemetery.
Retired service personnel helped lead an honor guard onto the grounds to kick off the ceremony, while American Legion scholarship recipients read speeches commemorating the day. A fly-over was also planned, a touch provided by Albin Moore, a former Navy reservist and American Legion commander.
“This is my barbecue, my trip to the beach or (to) the cabin,” Moore said. “I make it a point to come here every year.”
Moore wants people to remember this particular day for something other than having a cookout or going to a swimming pool to herald the unofficial start of summer. Having served for 23 years, he is cognizant of the importance of remembering those soldiers who gave their lives in defense of this nation.
