Roger Lonergan Sr.
Roger D. Lonergan Sr., 70, of Joliet, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2018) at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec.13, 1948, in Kankakee, to Alyosius J. Lonergan and Dolores (nee Riordan).
Roger retired from the state of Illinois in 2014 with 36 years of service. He enjoyed watching TV shows, golfing and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Roger made the best popcorn and was a pro at cooking out on the grill. He was a simple man with a big heart and a true work ethic, and he always was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Doris J. (nee McDermott); two sons, Roger Jr. and Matt (Tara Taft) Lonergan; three grandchildren, Connor, Morgan and Brittanyrose; and siblings, Rick (Linda), Jeff (Marcia), Rosemary (Kim) and Diane Williams. He was the dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road at Essington Road, Joliet. Funeral services for Roger will begin 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home and process to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory St., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. As he requested, cremation rites will be accorded following Mass.
