Crash suspect involved in auto-parts theft in central Greenwich: cops
GREENWICH — A motorist who smashed into a utility pole early Thursday morning in central Greenwich is also being sought for trying to steal car parts from a nearby auto dealership, according to police.
Around 3:12 a.m., an officer saw someone attempting to steal rims and wheels from New Country Audi, police Lt. John Slusarz said Monday.
“Officers tried to stop him, and he took off. He subsequently crashed around the corner,” the lieutenant said. The collision on Brookside Drive knocked out power to the neighborhood for several hours.
The suspect was driving a late-model Audi sedan.
Police were trying to determine what, if anything, was taken from the Audi dealership — “we’re still trying to collect all the information.” The ownership of the Audi involved in the collision is also being investigated. Police said it appeared to have come from out of town.
