FSU’s Ferrell, Sharp Earn MASCAC Honors
The Fitchburg State baseball team saw Brendan Ferrell and Richard Sharp sweep the first MASCAC weekly baseball awards of the 2019 season on Monday.
Ferrell, a freshman outfielder, was named MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Week, going 5-for-11 (.455) with a double, one run scored, one walk, two stolen bases and six RBI in three games for the Falcons (2-1). He finished 1-for-4 with an RBI in a 5-0 shutout win over Salve Regina on Friday before going a combined 4-for-7 with a double and five RBI in a doubleheader split with Curry on Sunday afternoon.
Sharp, of Townsend, was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Week after the former North Middlesex Regional standout went 7.2 innings, allowing three hits and striking out six in the victory over Salve Regina.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, facing Fontbonne in Lake Myrtle, Fla. at 1:30 p.m.
Worcester State sophomore John Ojukwu was named MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week award for the second consecutive week on Monday.
The Nashoba Regional grad had a time of 7.02 in the 60-meter dash final to finish second overall at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet this weekend. The second place finish comes just a week after Ojukwu earned the New England Championship in the same event.
