NY Assembly Speaker Heastie to teach college part-time
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is headed back to school as a part-time faculty member at Monroe College’s Bronx campus.
Heastie, a Bronx Democrat, says he will teach two sections of a personal finance course as a part-time member of the faculty.
Heastie was an adjunct professor at Monroe from 2007 until shortly before he was elected speaker in 2015. He taught introductory courses in the business and accounting school and political science classes.
Heastie says he recognizes the “countless doors” higher education opened for him and wants to ensure that others have the same opportunities.
The Legislature is scheduled to reconvene in Albany in January.
