HOUSTON (AP) _ Seattle SuperSonics guard Kevin Williams was fined $400 and sentenced to community service, while charges against teammate Dale Ellis were dropped in connection with a nightclub scuffle in May.

During a court proceeding Wednesday, County Criminal Court Judge Neel Richardson placed the 25-year-old Williams on deferred adjudicated probation.

Williams had been charged with resisting arrest after he allegedly struck the assistant manager of the Ocean Club on May 3.

If Williams completes 20 hours of community service work in Seattle, his record will be cleared. Revocation of his probation could result in a year in jail, said his attorney, West Hocker of Houston.

Charges of hindering arrest by interfering with two uniformed, off-duty Houston police officers working security at the club were dropped against Ellis, 26, also a guard.

Both players had faced up to six months in jail and $1,000 in fines.

The arraignment hearing for the players was rescheduled several times so they could compete in the NBA playoffs. The SuperSonics were in Houston to play the Rockets when the incident took place.
