Charges Filed in Stephanie Kuhen’s Shooting
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Three alleged gang members were charged Tuesday in the slaying of a 3-year-old girl riding in a car that turned onto a graffiti-scarred dead-end street and was blasted with gunfire.
Marcos Antonio Luna, 23, Marvin Alejandro Pech, 18, and a 16-year-old boy who wasn’t identified because of his age were charged with murder and five counts of attempted murder.
Another 16-year-old in custody was expected to be charged Wednesday. Prosecutors said more arrests were possible, but the first suspect arrested, Vincent Caldera, will not be charged.
Luna and Pech, each held on $3.5 million bail, were scheduled for arraignment Oct. 11. They face 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
The 16-year-old was set to be arraigned Wednesday in juvenile court, but prosecutors said they will seek to have him and the other youth, if charged, tried as adults.
The defendants were identified as members of a gang in the neighborhood where Stephanie Kuhen was fatally shot Sept. 17. Her 2-year-old brother was shot in the foot, and the driver suffered a minor back wound. Three others in the car weren’t hurt.
